Inner Space is part of an ongoing research project into the construction of the architectural imagination, which the authors have pursued in the last decade through an online visual atlas (socks-studio.com), an architectural practice and teaching activity. This essay investigates the space between inner and outer reality, looking for those moments in which the two realms interact most vividly. It defines imagination as the capacity to organise, structure and translate into other forms our own experience of the world. Such an experience may be direct, or it can be mediated by the encounter of a subject with imagery. Inner Space looks freely into cognitive science and typology, atlases and digital culture, drawings and collections to expand "an unlinear journey through far away territories of human imagination".

Espaço Interior faz parte de um projecto de investigação em curso sobre a construção do imaginário arquitectónico, desenvolvido pelos autores na última década através de um atlas visual online (socks-studio.com) a par da prática de arquitectura e actividade docente. Este ensaio investiga o espaço entre a realidade interior e exterior, procurando os momentos em que os dois universos interagem de forma activa. Aqui, define-se imaginação como a capacidade de organizar, estruturar e traduzir noutras formas a nossa própria experiência do mundo. Uma experiência que pode ser directa, ou pode ser mediada pelo encontro de um sujeito com imagens. Espaço Interior analisa assim, de forma livre, a ciência cognitiva e a tipologia, o atlas e a cultura digital, e desenhos e colecções para expandir "uma viagem não linear por territórios distantes da imaginação humana".
